Tug of War at Purple and Gold Day 2010

The Perkiomen School’s Student Senate focused on student activities during the 2009-2010 academic year.  Many of the events started last year, will carry that through this coming year.  You can check out photos in the Media Gallery.  Senate is the voice of the students; it is the place where their ideas and concerns are addressed.  Senate also serves as the reporting forum for student clubs and organization on campus.  The Upper School Senate is comprised of the President and Vice President of grades 9-12, dorm and floor reps, day students and members at large.  Committees are well rounded and include activities, food, clubs and organizations, prom and community.  We will meet the first  week of every month and committees will meet as needed. Student Activities Committee (SAC) and Food Committee (FC) will meet weekly.

Plans have already begun for September 10-12, which tentatively include an outdoor movie, Wal-Mart Trip, Luau Dinner and featuring our own DJ Laura G, and a trip to the King of Prussia Mall.  This fall we also plan to have shopping trips to New York City and Baltimore. Included in the Baltimore trip is opportunity visit to the world renowned National Aquarium.

During October, Senate will be raising money for breast cancer research by participating in Lee Denim Day on October 8. By making a $5.00 donation students, faculty and staff you can wear jeans to school that day.  Last year, PERK raised over $600. On the fall calendar, we have “Our Minute To Win It” game show, which challenges individuals to complete tasks in a one minute time frame.

PERK SPIRIT WEEK, October 17-23, (which leads to Fall Family Weekend on October 22) will include daily activities and challenges.  Part of the week will be The Fall Purple and Gold Games. This is a really fun team event that has teams competing against each other in fun “field day” activities.  The Semi Formal Homecoming Dance rounds out the weekend on Saturday, October 23.

During the year, Senate will spearhead community service projects including our VERY LARGE food drive which begins the week of November 15. In 2009 we donated over 16,000 items totally 1,700 pounds of food to Philabundance.  Students, count, process and deliver the items to WMMRs Camp Out for Hunger during the first week of December!

PERK GAMES, a series of tournaments, throughout the winters months including 3 on 3 basketball,  DODGEBALL, badminton, volleyball and soccer. Trips may include Dave and Busters in Philadelphia, Cirque du Soleil on Broadway, and a weekend trip to Washington, D.C.  Planned are: an informal Valentine’s Dance, SUMO Wrestling Tournament, Pool Party and DJ. The weekend of February 18 brings us the second annual Mr. Perkiomen Contest which leads straight to Winter Purple and Gold Games on February 19.

Spring will bring us more trips including  New York City and the possibility of a Broadway Show, “Dancing With The Stars/Faculty”, PROM, SPRING Purple and Gold Day and much much more…So come and be a part of our fun!
