Athletics & Activities at Perk

Athletics and activities round out the day at Perkiomen. Varsity, junior varsity and Middle School sports offer a variety of choices for both skilled and developing athletes. Presently, several Perk students are playing varsity athletics in college in baseball, basketball, football, polo, swimming, and rowing.

All students are required to participate in an afterschool activity each trimester.

Afternoon Athletic / Activity Requirement

All students are required to participate in an afterschool activity each trimester.

 

Upper School – The Perkiomen School does not offer physical education classes for Upper School students. Students are required to participate, as a team player, in at least one interscholastic team sport, or one of the other physically active programs, each school year. Activities run from 3:15-5:30 p.m. each day.

 

Middle School – Students are required to participate in the afterschool program, which includes a competitive sports schedule, and there is an option to try out for the Middle School play in the winter term. All activities run from 3:15-4:30 p.m. each day.

 

Other Upper School Athletic Options

In addition to its interscholastic teams, The Perkiomen School offers other athletic options that Upper School students may participate in to fulfill their athletic requirement.

 

Boxing – The boxing fitness program is a fee-based program offered by United Tae Kwon Do Studio in Pennsburg. The boxing program takes place each afternoon 3:30-5:00. Transportation is provided by the school and required. There is a per trimester fee for boxing and a daily transportation fee.

YMCA – A fee-based fitness program is offered by the Upper Perkiomen branch of Freedom Valley YMCA in Pennsburg. The YMCA program takes place each afternoon 3:30-5:00. Transportation is provided by the school and required. There is a per trimester fee for the YMCA program and a daily transportation fee.

Athletic Requirement Exemptions

Students who are actively engaged at a high level in an athletic activity that Perkiomen does not offer but that is comparable to the expectations and time commitment required of all students may petition the Athletic Department for an exemption to Perkiomen’s school-offered activity requirement.

 

The activity exception form must be submitted to the Director of Athletics at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the athletic season.

Athletic Practice Uniform

Students are required to wear purple Perk shorts, a gray Perk athletic t-shirt and the Perk warm-up suit. Practice uniforms can be purchased at Robbie’s.

 

Game Days – Students may wear their game day shirts to school over a school shirt. The rest of the student’s attire must follow the regular dress code. Game day dress is not permitted on Mondays.

 

Other Equipment Requirements:

Cross Country/Track – running sneakers

Girls’ Field Hockey/Girls’ Lacrosse – cleats, goggles (meeting NFHS requirements)

Boys' Football – cleats

Golf – clubs, shoes, golf balls

Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer – cleats

Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis – racquet, tennis sneakers

Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball – basketball sneakers

Boys' Baseball – cleats

Girls' Softball – cleats

Badminton/Powerlifting/YMCA Fitness – indoor athletic shoes
