PERK BASEBALL TEAM GIVES THE GIFT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
PERK Baseball had another successful season in 2012. The team finished the season 16-8 and won the league championship for the 18th consecutive season. Five starters from the 2012 team graduated significant contributors. Three are playing collegiate baseball; Axel Rivera at Philadelphia University, Remon Grant at Grambling University, and Crachad Laing at Bridgewater College. This fall the team again played in the Pride of the Diamond league which plays on the weekends in September and October; it keeps the players involved in baseball. The coaches have the opportunity to evaluate new players, check the development of returning players and give pitchers the opportunity to pitch in live game situations. The fall team went undefeated this season and won the playoffs, winning the championship game over Pleasant Valley High School 5-1. This team played excellent team baseball. The success of any baseball team leans heavily on its pitching. Our pitching this fall took a big step forward from last year and I hope we can continue to improve with hard work over the winter. As is usual, we put together a challenging schedule for the spring.
The fall season has demonstrated that the team is willing to work together for a common goal. The returning players have taken on positive leadership roles and have been good role models for the new players, helping to establish PERK Baseball as a strong program. As usual, the spring schedule is challenging. If we are going to be competitive the individual work the players put in this winter will determine our success.
