Middle School Fine Arts

VISUAL ART

• Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 meet twice a cycle for a studio class.
• Student artwork is displayed regularly in the halls of the Hollenbach Middle School building.
• Additionally, student artwork and poetry is published in the school art and literary magazine - The Palintir.

DRAMA

• 7th and 8th graders have an activity-based drama class every other day for one term of the school year.
• Students who are interested in performance may participate in the after-school drama program during the winter term.  In 2010-11, the Middle School after-school drama students will put on a production, with performances on Jan. 28 and 29.

MUSIC

• All students in grades 6 and 7 receive music instruction within the Fine Arts curriculum. Music 6 and Music 7 are general music classes which broaden student knowledge of the elements of music, musical instruments, the history of music, and famous composers through games, actvities, performance, and occasional written work. All students in grades 6-8 may choose to participate in the performance music program as well.
• Vocal Music 
  • All students are welcome to join the Middle School Chorus.
  • Students who join the chorus are expected to perform at our winter and spring concerts.
  • Advanced students may have additional opportunites to perform throughout the year.
  • Private vocal lesson may be arranged for students with a special interest in singing.
• Instrumental Music
  • All students are invited to audition for the Middle School Band.
  • Students who join the band are expected to perform in our winter and spring concerts.
  • Advanced students may have additional opportunities to perform with upper school ensembles at other performances throughout the school year.
  • Private lesson are encouraged and can usually be arranged within the academic day.
