Donte Gittens has been named Head Coach of the Perkiomen School boys’ varsity basketball team.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be Head Coach of the varsity team,” says Gittens. “I’ve learned so much in my coaching journey in my time at Perkiomen and I can’t wait to relay those lessons to all of the players. More than anything I am ready for the opportunity to develop student-athletes and place them on the path to universities with basketball being their driving tool.”
Gittens came to Perkiomen as an assistant coach in 2019, after a career in professional basketball, playing with the Manchester Magic. He was a two-time All-Conference player for Division II Franklin Pierce University, where he scored over 1000 points, 500 rebounds, and had more than 450 assists.
“We are excited for Coach Gittens to have the opportunity to expand his role as Head Coach of the varsity team,” says Thomas Baudinet, Director of Basketball Operations. “It is a huge benefit to have somebody internally who knows our school and basketball program culture and will be able to head the varsity squad as a seamless part of our overall program. Donte also has a wonderful rapport with our current student-athletes. It will be great for his coaching development and leadership growth to now be able to take a more active role directing his own team in practices and in games.”
