Rock Band expands set list and styles for Fall Performance

Throughout most of the school day, Kehs Hall sits relatively quiet. Students carefully craft art pieces in the third-floor studio, engage in group lectures in the main theatre, or study music in the band room. However, around 3 p.m. during the Fall term, one can hear the swells of pop and rock hits emanating from the upper floors of the red brick monolith.

Fall Rock Band, while being a traditionally smaller group, attracts some of the most dedicated musicians on campus looking to collaborate, grow together, and perform at the Homecoming football game and Fall concert. Typically, the band performs a shorter set of 4-6 songs at the football game, as a sort of road-test for the main show, where they will play 8-10 songs, along with other various solo performances.

This year, Mrs. Sacks (the former Ms. Finnerty - congratulations on her recent wedding!) and Dr. Rodgers are advisors for the band and have recently led the band to a successful first show during homecoming weekend.

“The rock band had a fabulous first concert at Homecoming weekend at Perkiomen,” says Sacks. “They were extremely prepared with their repertoire and were able to just focus on each other and making music as a unit.”

The Homecoming setlist included songs by Green Day, Queen, and AC/DC, and featured a steady stream of musicians who played multiple instruments.

While Mrs. Sacks says that she is happy with the way the show turned out, she is already looking forward to the group’s main show.

“Dr. Rodgers and I are very proud and are so looking forward to our Fall Concert on October 21,” says Sacks. “The Fall Concert will primarily consist of new repertoire for our rock band, The Griffins, and include different styles such as swing. Our rock band is very unique, and I believe you will see that in the pieces they have chosen.”

The setlist promises to deliver again, with a brand-new selection of pieces by artists like Lady Gaga, Journey, and Foo Fighters. The Griffins hope to see everyone at the show - Friday, October 21 at 7:30 pm!
