Summer Reading

This summer, the all-school read is There Is No Long Distance Now: Very Short Stories by Naomi Shihab Nye.

Upper School

Upper School students will read one other book from the list of suggestions from the Upper School Student Summer Reading Leaders.

Students in ESL classes are not required to read another book besides There Is No Long Distance Now: Very Short Stories, but are still encouraged to read for pleasure.

Students taking AP courses in 2018-19 can expect to have reading or assignments during the summer; those have been distributed by the AP teachers and will be posted to the Summer Reading Guide soon for access during the summer.

Middle School

For the all-school read, Middle School students should choose ten stories from a list of selections from There Is No Long Distance Now: Very Short Stories, to be found here.

Middle School students will also choose one book from the list of options for their grade level and read or listen to at least one other book of their own choosing. For ideas, try the Reading Olympics or PA Young Readers’ Choice lists for next year!

Middle School students in ESL classes are not required to read another book besides the selections from There Is No Long Distance Now: Very Short Stories, but are still encouraged to read for pleasure.

Families are encouraged to review the choice books together, so that students can choose books that are right for them as well as appealing to their reading tastes.
