Post-Grad and Prep-Year

Options for extending the high school experience

A student may consider enrolling in an additional year of high school in order to better prepare for college in a number of areas. Perkiomen School offers a focused, living and learning boarding experience designed to transition students from high school to college.

A post-graduate year (often abbreviated to PG) is a year beyond high school graduation, spent at an independent school, like Perkiomen School. The post-graduate year can be a worthwhile opportunity to consider. This additional year can often be what brings it all together, shaping the experience and allowing a student to mature socially and/or academically, enhancing study skills and time management, and possibly providing another year to strengthen athletic ability to pursue a sport in college.

Some students consider adding an additional year of high school by enrolling in the same grade they have just completed, essentially repeating that academic year, called reclassifying. This can be another opportunity for a younger student who would like to add an additional year to grow academically, emotionally, or athletically or to fully experience a particular school for an additional year before graduation.
