Letter from the Head of School January 18, 2021
Dear Perkiomen Community,
The end of January brings us to mid-year Long Weekend, an extra holiday built into the schedule to rest and recharge in the winter months. This break from classes has traditionally been a time when boarding students would have an opportunity to go home for an extended visit. Along with so many other modifications this year, travel has become a challenge so we wanted to share our guidance.
Long Weekend will begin at the conclusion of after-school activities on Friday, January 29, and continue through Monday, February 1. Classes will resume Tuesday, February 2, at 8 am.
We are encouraging our students and families to follow the Pennsylvania guidelines and not travel outside of the state. If you do leave the state for the weekend, the expectation is that you will adhere to the state order for COVID-19 testing.
If you travel outside of Pennsylvania:
If you live or work in Montgomery County (which includes our school address for Boarding Students), there are local sites that offer free testing by appointment. Visit https://data-montcopa.opendata.arcgis.com/pages/covid-testing-page to register for a test. The Green Lane site is closest to Perkiomen School. You may also choose to be tested by our Health Center for a fee of $150. To arrange a Health Center appointment, contact dpoole@perkiomen.org.
Although in this communication, we are giving specific guidelines for the upcoming Long Weekend, these protocols would apply to any weekend travel while Pennsylvania maintains the 72-hour testing order.
We have many members of our community who live in close proximity to the school and in other parts of Pennsylvania. For them, travel notices may be redundant. However, we also have students and families from several different states and countries, so it is important that everyone understands the local and state orders as they apply to their student while here on campus.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the health and well-being of our community. Please reach out if you have any questions. As always, if guidelines or directives change we will let you know.
Enjoy the upcoming Long Weekend! Sincerely yours, Mark A. Devey Head of School
