Letter from the Head of School March 18, 2021
Dear Perkiomen Community, Perkiomen School stands with our Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander community members. Members of those communities have faced a long history of racism in the United States. Sadly, we have witnessed a dramatic rise in racially-motivated violence since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, punctuated with actions of hate and injustice.
We condemn the hatred, racism, and violence you are experiencing. We stand by you and all communities who are not heard, seen, valued, or treated humanely.
We do not just stand with you today but every day and pledge to continue to actively participate in educating our community. Students have presented workshops and shared resources on social justice and COVID-19, where we explored xenophobia experienced by members of the AAPI community, and it is clear we need to do more. Visit these sources to learn more about the fight to end anti-Asian violence and how you can get involved: If students or community members would like to engage in conversations around anti-racism or are looking for more resources, please reach out to Ms. Walton or Mr. Smith of the Diversity Collaborative.
We also encourage our wider community to join our faculty in participating in an upcoming training session hosted by hollaback! - "Bystander Intervention to Stop Anti-Asian/American Harassment and Xenophobia."
Let us have the courage to take action, to stop and say, "enough," having an impact on that moment, and collectively, on the moments ahead.
Sincerely, Mark A. Devey Head of School
