Letter from the Head of School March 19, 2021
Dear Perkiomen Community, The last signs of the February snow have finally faded from campus, now really starting to feel like the Spring Break that it is. My family and I took the opportunity to travel to see two colleges – an exciting rite of passage many of you are also experiencing, looking to the future and the possibilities ahead.
I was reminded that a year ago this week we began Virtual Perkiomen – an unusual anniversary to celebrate yet one that allows us to reflect back on the strength and resilience of our community. I pledged to you then to do my best to keep you informed and updated, keeping our focus on delivering top-quality academics, while continuing to provide the emotional support of a nurturing community. I can say with certainty that we have done this well and that one year later, the Perkiomen community remains both resolute and connected. Thank you for your commitment and confidence in our school.
With the assistance of the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (OPH) and the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit , as well as St. Luke's and the Lehigh Valley Health Network, faculty and staff members have had the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and by the end of the month nearly all of us will have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Positive news continues from the county and guidelines for hosting spring events like the prom and graduation are being released from the OPH. As soon as those protocols are finalized, we will share our plans for how we will hold celebrations on campus.
As we return to school following the break, I want to remind you of a few items:
For those of you returning to on-campus instruction, all COVID-19 mitigation measures remain in place, including wearing face coverings, social distancing, and frequent hand washing. If students traveled during break, we do recommend testing before returning to campus.
Please resume Magnus Health reporting each morning, and be sure to communicate any daily change in student status (on-campus or virtual) to Assistant Head of School for Student Life Kevin Manferdini. The option remains for students to be virtual, should families prefer that model upon return from break. Please do indicate any change on the Learning Declaration Form.
I am looking forward Term 6 classes as well as warmer weather to bring us back outside for our activities and events. Let's continue to work together to keep Perkiomen safe and healthy.
Sincerely, Mark A. Devey Head of School
