Letter from the Head of School April 8, 2021
Dear Perkiomen Students and Families,
As I pledged to you at the start of the pandemic, I will continue to keep you informed regarding the health and safety of our Perkiomen community. Since my last communication on April 3, four additional members of the school community have tested positive for COVID-19. However, because those individuals were either already in isolation, or not on campus, there was minimal risk to our school population and few possible contacts.
In order to slow community spread due to the rise in cases last week, we chose to test two separate groups on Monday. I am pleased to share that 57 tests were administered to these groups and all results were negative.
The decision to flip to virtual and to quarantine and test community members was proactive and because of the fast action of our Administrative and Health Center teams, we were successful, and the possible spread was contained. We know that mitigation measures like mask wearing, social distancing, and hand washing work. We know that when we follow the rules, we are safer.
We will return to in-person instruction on Monday, April 12 and after-school activities will resume on Monday afternoon.
I want to remind you that if a student is being tested for COVID-19, or a student is symptomatic, families must alert the Health Center and that student and any siblings who attend Perkiomen must remain at home or in the dormitory until a negative test result is obtained. Do not send a child to school if a COVID test result is pending.
Our actions now will determine the remainder of the school year, including whether or not we can hold events like the Prom, Baccalaureate and Commencement, or Middle School Moving Up Day. Continue to follow mitigation measures both on and off campus. Please communicate with us regularly and share our conservative approach to keeping our community safe.
Let's finish the year strong with lots to celebrate! Sincerely, Mark A. Devey Head of School
