Biography

Roman Balaban comes to Perkiomen with 14 years of volleyball coaching experience, most recently as Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball team at Gateway Legacy Christian Academy in Hazelwood, Missouri.

In high school, Balaban played basketball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis. His experiences in team sports and life changing coaching led him to pursue coaching himself. While working on his business degree at Lindenwood University he began to coach the volleyball program at Parkway Central for the following eight years. During these eight years, the girls program was able to compete well at the district level. The boys program during these years went on to win three state championships. Having coached at the Freshman, JV, and Varsity level both on the boys' and girls' side of the sport, Balaban became the Head coach at Parkway North High school. Having to build the girls program and competing at the state level with the boys, the grassroots approach of developing young players continued to be a prevalent theme, training and mentoring young players to supplement their seniors and assume leadership in the future years. His coaching experience led him to later pursue an education in teaching.

After getting married and having their first of two daughters, coaching travel club volleyball became the priority. Realizing the need for good training to all younger players in the region, Balaban expanded his training circle to include the greater St. Louis area with Team Momentum/PlyoCitySTL. Becoming a master coach and trainer in the area, many players trained from within the club and other clubs, including high level talent from the top 25 nationally ranked clubs in the area.

Balaban is excited to bring his passion and expertise to Perkiomen. Developing local athletes as well recruiting international talent is a focal point.
